# Site Design Data Coverage

> Which regions return wind, snow, seismic, and tornado design data through CalcsConnect.

CalcsConnect returns environmental design loads for a set of coordinates, so your product does not need its own hazard lookup. Coverage differs by region and by data type. A request for data that does not exist for a location returns an error rather than an estimate.

## Coverage by region

| Region | Data available | Standard |
| - | - | - |
| United States | Wind, tornado, snow, seismic | ASCE 7-16 and ASCE 7-22, with ASCE 7-22 as the default. Seismic values come from USGS. |
| Sweden | Wind, snow | EN 1991-1-4 for wind, EN 1991-1-3 for snow |
| Norway | Wind, snow | EN 1991-1-4 for wind, EN 1991-1-3 for snow |
| Denmark | Wind | EN 1991-1-4 |
| United Kingdom | Wind | EN 1991-1-4 |
| Spain | Wind | CTE DB SE-AE |
| Kenya | Wind | KS ISO 4354 |

The country is detected from the coordinates you send. You can override that detection with a country code when you need to.

## What each data type returns

* **Wind.** Wind speed design values. US locations return a value per risk category, I through IV. Other regions return a base wind speed.
* **Tornado.** Tornado wind speed design values. United States only, under ASCE 7-22, for risk categories III and IV.
* **Snow.** Ground snow load design values. ASCE 7-22 returns a value per risk category. ASCE 7-16 returns a single ground snow load.
* **Seismic.** Mapped values (Ss, S1), site-modified values (Sms, Sm1), design values (Sds, Sd1), long-period transition period (TL), and seismic design category. Risk category and site class are both parameters.

A single call can return every applicable load for a location at once, with elevation and terrain roughness as options.

## Handling gaps

Not every location has every data type. Design your integration to treat a gap as a valid answer rather than a failure.

* Snow and tornado requests return `404` where the data is not available for that location.
* Seismic requests return `400` for locations outside the United States.
* The combined endpoint returns the load types it can, sets the rest to null, and reports what was missing in its warnings.

Falling back to a user-entered value keeps the calculation moving when a lookup comes back empty.

Endpoints, parameters, and response schemas are documented under [GIS environmental loads](https://developer.calcs.com/api/gis-environmental-loads) on the Calcs.com developer portal.
