# Standards Licensing & Copyright

> What the reproduction notice means, and what your organisation's license type allows you to do with standards content.

Standards content in Calcs.com is reproduced under license from the relevant standards body — for example Standards Australia for AS and AS/NZS standards. Copyright in the standard itself stays with that body, not with Calcs.com, and every clause page carries a reproduction notice saying so.

## What the reproduction notice means

At the bottom of every clause page you'll see wording similar to:

> Reproduced by ClearCalcs Pty Ltd (trading as Calcs.com) with the permission of Standards Australia Limited.
>
> Copyright in Australian Standard® (AS) standards vests in Standards Australia, and AS/NZS standards vests jointly in Standards Australia and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, New Zealand. Users must not copy or reuse this work without the permission of Standards Australia or the copyright owner.

In plain terms: you're reading a licensed copy, not Calcs.com's own content. The same restrictions that would apply if you'd bought the standard directly from the standards body still apply here.

## License types

Your organisation's access to each standard falls into one of two license types:

* **Schedule 1 (view/search only)** — you can read and search the standard's content, but not print, download, or copy it out.
* **Schedule 2 (named-user access)** — printing and downloading are permitted for your organisation's named users, in addition to viewing and searching.

Your license type is set per standard, so your organisation could have Schedule 2 access to one standard and Schedule 1 access to another. This is what determines whether [downloading a standard as PDF](/docs/standards_library/downloading_a_standard_as_pdf) produces a usable file.

## What this means day to day

* **Don't copy clause text out of Calcs.com into other documents** beyond what your license permits — link to the clause instead, using [Sharing a Clause Link](/docs/standards_library/sharing_a_clause_link).
* **Downloaded PDFs are watermarked and device-locked**, and must be deleted once your subscription to that standard ends.
* **Standards content can't be redistributed** outside your organisation's licensed, named users.

<Note>
  These terms come from the standards bodies that license their content to Calcs.com, not from Calcs.com itself. For the full legal terms, see our [third-party standards licensing terms](https://calcs.com/third-party-terms).
