Why direct import is not available

Tedds templates use a proprietary format that cannot be read directly by other software, so there is no import step to run. Most firms rebuild their standard templates in Calcs.com over the first few weeks. Because Calcs.com connects calculations through live load paths, the rebuilt versions tend to be more useful than the originals.

Start with your standard templates

Do not try to move everything at once. List the calculations your office actually repeats. That is usually a short set: a few beam types, a column, a footing, and a connection or two. Rebuild those first in Calcs.com. Most engineers report that rebuilding a core set takes a day or two. Firms with a larger Tedds library typically spread the work across the first few weeks, rebuilding templates as live jobs call for them.

Rebuild as linked calculations, not separate sheets

The rebuild is a chance to improve the structure rather than copy it. Calcs.com connects calculations through live load paths, so a beam reaction can feed the column that supports it. Change a load at the top and the members below it update.

Check coverage before you commit

Run two or three recent jobs through Calcs.com and compare the results against your Tekla Tedds output. It confirms that your standard member types, materials, and regional standards are covered. Keep Tekla Tedds running during the changeover

There is no need to switch off Tekla Tedds on day one. Most teams run both for a period, then retire the old calculations once the rebuilt versions have been used on real jobs. See Migrating from Spreadsheets for how to run both side by side. If a calculation you rely on does not appear to have an equivalent, email support@calcs.com before assuming it is missing.
