Sections are occasionally removed from the Calcs.com database. If that happens, the removal is flagged in calculations that used the section. Calculations completed before the removal are not affected.

Why a section is removed

Removals follow changes at the source rather than being made on a schedule. For how the underlying data is maintained, see Check Material and Section Data Versions.

How you are told

Calculations that used the removed section are flagged. The flag tells you the section is no longer in the database. You decide what to do next, rather than discovering the change during a review.

Work completed earlier is not affected

A calculation completed before the removal keeps its results. Reports you have already exported remain a record of what was calculated. The numbers in them do not change because the database changed later. This matters for issued documentation. You do not need to reissue past reports every time a section table is revised.

What to do when a section is flagged

Handle it as an engineering decision, not a housekeeping task:
  1. Open the flagged calculation and note the section that was removed.
  2. Check with the supplier or the current section table whether the section is still available for the project.
  3. If it is not available, select a current section and re-run the calculation.
  4. Confirm the governing check still passes, then export a fresh report.
Use Autosize or the member selector to find a current section that suits the same loads.

Preferred sections lists

If the removed section appears in a project or organization preferred sections list, review that list as well. See How to use preferred sections and autosize.

If you believe a section was removed in error

Report it with the calculator name, the section designation, and the standard or manufacturer table you are working from. Email support@calcs.com so the engineering team can check the source data.
