The Import from Excel feature lets you create a large batch of calculations from a single filled-in spreadsheet, instead of adding and populating them one at a time.

When to use it

Use bulk import when you need to create many calculations that all use the same calculator. Common cases:
  • Setting up a project’s full set of connections from a schedule.
  • Recreating a set of calculations you already have laid out in a spreadsheet.
  • Load-testing a preset across many geometries.
The feature currently supports one set of factored loads and one set of unfactored loads per calculation. If you need multiple factored load sets on the same connection, add a separate calculation for each set instead.

How to bulk import calculations

1. Open the Import from Excel dialog

There are two ways to start:
  • From the Member Schedule tab, click Import from Excel.
  • When adding a new calculation, click Import from Excel in the calculator picker.

2. Choose the calculator and preset

Pick the calculator you want the calculations to use (for example, HSS to HSS Shear Connection) and select any preset you’ve enabled for it. The template generated matches that specific calculator and preset.

3. Download the template

Click to download the Excel template. It includes:
  • An inputs tab with one row per calculation you want to create.
  • A Loads tab where you can enter factored and unfactored loads for each calculation.

4. Fill in the template

Add one row per calculation you want to create. You can create as many calculations in a single import as you need. Enter loads on the Loads tab, one factored set and one unfactored set per calculation.

5. Drag the file back in

Return to the Import from Excel dialog and drag the completed spreadsheet in. The file is validated and, if it passes, the full set of calculations is created in one operation.

6. Review the results

When the project reloads, every calculation from the spreadsheet appears in your member schedule. Some may pass their design checks and some may fail, depending on the inputs you provided. From here you can review results and use bulk operations in the member schedule instead of clicking through calculations one at a time.
